Zildjian A Custom Series 20" Rezo Crash
By superapollo on 10/07/2008 at 22:28

Overall Opinion
12 months ago, I had no idea how special this cymbal was. Getting to know the Zildjian 20 inch Rezo is like falling in love with your best friend, it's amazing. I get behind her with full force, or I'll ride her like a ride cymbal. And everything in between. The Rezo for me stand for resolution, or resonator, or you might even say revolution in cymbal making! You are going to find sweet spots all over as she spins around on her stand, and you will learn to control where you smash into her, or find her clink spots towards the top. The Zildjian Rezo compliments my fast crashes well for some extra depth and variety.

Zildjian is my brand for cymbals, and for good reason, all the names on my cymbals match. Not just that though, the quality is epic, the consistency and workmanship of Zildjian is spectacular and she has yet to let me down yet. Thank goodness for the good people at Zildjian.

Zildjian A Custom Fast Crash 18"
By superapollo on 10/07/2008 at 22:23

Overall Opinion
When choosing to take the small leaps in the spacing of my crash sizes, going from 15 to 18 was a choice I am very happy with. Basically, one year in I have no intent in changing the solitiy of favoring a 1-2 or 1-2-3 or sometimes even more punches in a cymbal combo. I will crash crash crash, and then crash some more. Zildjian is a great band to do it with. I'll keep coming back to her until she turns me away, but so far she has been there with open arms of quality and love every time.

Zildjian Fast crashes I prefer for consistency and of course the sound. I'll ride out on anyone of them, and make quick crash transitions all over the place. I love to explore the depths of sound you can reach by different levels of strength exerted into the crashes, and different places to hit them. Zildjian, my love, keep singing to me, and I'll give you the sa.me

Zildjian A Custom 14" Fast Crash
By superapollo on 10/07/2008 at 22:12

Overall Opinion
The first time 12 months ago, I came quick off a drum roll and laid a little crash from this bad boy at the end, I fell in love. Perfect for those moments of short lived heightened sound during a jam, or recording. I come to her often with a light visit, and once in while for a full blow of crashing glory. I'm not afraid to ride her top once in a while for a different sound for time keeping, I love to explore everything the Zildjian Fast crash can do. And she is full of surprises.
I started piecing my Zildjian cymbal set together, and I like the consistency and quality of the brand. So I shell it out for the good return. I choose Zildjian, because I am product loyal but for good reason. She is a reliable top of the line brand, with a legacy of consistent quality. Crash, I just laid into my Zildian Fast crash out of excitement for the great decision we both made when choosing one another.

Zildjian A Custom Sizzle Ride
By superapollo on 10/07/2008 at 22:06

Overall Opinion
I've had my Zildjian cymbals since I began putting together my set 12 months ago. This ride gives me everything I need in a "go to" cymbal which I keep to my right. When you find the sweet spots where you are going to get the right clink, or the right "sizzling" sound, you'll just grow to love switching over to the ride for a triumphant breakdown or breathtaking chorus, this baby sings, and as a drummer/singer I find myself harmonizing with her as we ride out a high note or fade out over a breakdown. Really beautiful cymbal.
I tried a few models, but I have been partial to Zildjian since I was a kid. I never had one crack on me, and I like to play hard. This particular model felt right, so I went for it. This is another great case of you pay for what you get. I love this cymbal, she's worth the flow. I make the Zildjian sizzle choice for every breakdown and every chorus, and often for a long jam session full of jazz times and various time keeping. Don't be afraid to smash into her for a unique crash once in a while too.

Zildjian Z Custom Medium Crash 16"
By FateFelledVictim on 10/07/2008 at 02:27 Music is your Profession.

Overall Opinion
This is the cymbal that is made for metal, rock, or anything that needs a lot of drive. These cymbals cut through the mix with a very bright, focused attack. I have two Z Customs in my set, along with a K Custom, and 3 A Customs, and these blend very well. I have been using them for about two years. The thickness of the cymbal allows for amazing durability and crisp, roaring sound. Thanks to thickness, you can also use this cymbal as a ride. The only issue of this is the lack of bell, it really doesn’t have too much of one. It is similar to the concept of the A Custom flat top rides, only a crash.

I personally prefer the 16” Z Custom medium crash clean, to keep it bright, but over time the cymbal develops really dark tonal qualities, and the sound gets slightly quieter. The cymbal is really good for practicing musicians who want a cymbal that will last forever, and these are the best cymbals made for that reason. I find that the overtones are lighter than one would think from such a thick cymbal. The cymbal has a bright, short sustain. I love the sound of the cymbal when you choke it. It is like a tamed explosion, which is really good for intros. The looks of this cymbal are also really cool. The hammering and lathing makes them stand out in a set.

The only cons with this cymbal is that it may not be suitable for jazz or small clubs, as the volume may overshadow everything else. Another con is that the cymbal may overshadow the guitars or drums if the guitars have small amps or if the drums are not of very high quality. Another little complaint with these cymbals is that the attack of the cymbal is very bright and loud, doesn’t hold too much shimmer, like the A Customs. So if you are looking for something like the A Customs, this is not the way to go. But I would say these are a really good buy.

Zildjian Z Custom Rock Crash 17''
By FateFelledVictim on 10/07/2008 at 02:26 Music is your Profession.

Overall Opinion
The Z Custom 17” Rock Crash is one of the most versatile cymbals in the Z Custom cymbal line. The large, popped up bell allows the cymbal to be a projecting crash, while holding on to an overall clear ride sound. The shimmering attack of the Z Customs comes through with this cymbal, as the attack is brighter thanks to the large bell. My set includes a 16” Z Custom Medium crash and the 17” Rock crash, both are about a year old, and they blend together perfectly. This cymbal is just slightly higher pitch than the medium crashes that I have played. The cymbal is built like a tank, much like the other cymbals in the Z Custom line. The cymbal maintains tonal qualities while being loud enough to cut through any guitar, distorted or otherwise.

I play with one metal band, and they love the cut and the drive, while I also play with a jazz experimental band who love the bright attack and the ability to use these as a ride. I mixed this crash with A Custom crashes, splashes and hihats, while using a K Custom ride. Altogether, these cymbals are some of the best cymbals for the money, due to the fact of how durable they are. If you crack these, you might need to think about hitting a little bit lighter. I do have to say that although my jazz band loves these things, they are put to much better use in a rock and roll environment, where the guitars are a little louder.

The only real bad side to this cymbal is that it may be too loud for a new band whose guitarists don’t have powerful equipment, but you can feather hit these to make them a little quieter. All in all, these cymbals are amazing for pros and beginners alike for their tonal qualities and their durability. I would buy these over again.

Zildjian A new beat hi-hats 14"
By FateFelledVictim on 10/07/2008 at 02:26 Music is your Profession.

Overall Opinion
On a starting note I have to say that the Zildjian A Series New Beat hihats are some of the most popular hihat cymbals in the drumming world. I owned a set when I first started and got rid of them about a year later. These cymbals can span across almost any genre of music, and they are durable enough to withstand a heavy beating. The closed sound is one of the best I have heard, even in the K Series. The open sound is a little bit higher pitch and a little too tinny for my personal preference, but I am also very picky with my cymbals.

The main thing is with these New Beats is that it all depends on how you play them, like with any hihat. In the medium open position, these hats have an awesome wash while being loud enough to cut through guitars. Using these as a ride, you get a nice, crystal clear tone out of the cymbals, and due to the heavy bottom and medium top, there is a nice chick to be had. I have played on many kinds of hats, including the cheap ones like Camber, Hohner and the Zildjian ZBT’s, but I have also used top of the line hats like the Sabian AA Rock Hats and K Custom Mastersounds; and these hats a second only to my current hats, the 15” A Custom Mastersounds.

Overall these are very nice hihats for any style of drumming and hold up to the Avedis Zildjian name. My only complaints are they were a little too high pitch for the music I play and they were a bit clunky at times, but that’s what to expect from heavier hats. If you want a faster set of hats than these, I would go for the A Custom Master Sounds or the A Series Quick Beats or Mastersounds. In my opinion, to fix the pitch of these cymbals I would buy the 15” version as I have played a set with those and they are very nice as well. In the end, I would probably buy the 15” version of these if I had the choice, but these are still some great sounding cymbals.

Zildjian A Custom Medium Crash 18''
By FateFelledVictim on 10/07/2008 at 02:25 Music is your Profession.

Overall Opinion
This cymbal is a great addition to any drummers arsenal. The cymbal does not have to be beat on to explode with an array of colors and sounds. The cymbal has a large amount of wash, yet still holds on to an amazingly bright attack. The Brilliant finish is something to behold. It has thin lathing, giving it bright attack and tone. The cymbal is medium thin, which gives it enough ping to use as a ride, and has enough resonance and volume to cut through clean or distorted guitars.

The bell is decently large; at least big enough to use when using the cymbal as a ride. The role on the cymbal sounds epic, to say the least. I use it as a cymbal in metal, jazz, and rock. This cymbal is one of the few that can take whatever you throw at it, except a 4 ton truck. The versatility alone makes it a great asset. I paid around $210 for my crash brand new, and I have no regrets on the purchase. The only complaints I have with this cymbal is that for some people, the wash may be a little too much. The bright attack also is not as great for metal, because the tonal quality does not mix excessively well. The main issue that I have is that if you hit outrageously hard, I think that this cymbal will not last you all that long.

It is durable, but like I said, it can not withstand a truck. The resonance also may be a little too much, as I find that if I hit it at the end of a song, I am having to grab it to silence the ringing, but that is nothing some tape can't fix. I personally like the resonance, but it is a matter of opinion. The main strength of the cymbal, in my opinion, is when you hit it in long strings, rather than short bursts.
